Review on The Oak Room, Mercure Albrighton Hall Hotel
Built in 1630 alongside the fields where the Battle of Shrewsbury was fought, this thoughtfully extended ancestral home is now a fine-looking country house hotel with excellent conference and leisure facilities. It stands idyllically in 15 acres of pristine landscaped grounds complete with an ornamental lake just two miles from the centre of historic Shrewsbury.
Fine dining takes place in the panelled Oak Room restaurant, which makes an intimate setting for food with a modern slant. Typical dishes might include tomato tarte fine with goats' cheese and tapenade, corn-fed chicken with spinach and morel foam, and blackberry soufflé.
