Review on Dehesa
The Salt Yard group sold Dehesa to Urban Pubs and Bars in 2018, located just off Carnaby Street in the heart of Soho. Step inside, and you might be in a hip quarter of Barcelona - think high stools, blackboards, glass storage jars and blackboard menus offering brilliant tapas, plus all manner of interesting sherries and a sexy Iberian wine list.
Dehesa is open all day and - praise be - it now takes bookings for lunch Monday to Friday; even so, expect lots of hubbub and an edgy sense of anticipation to go with the full-blooded atmosphere. The restaurant takes its name from the forests where Spain's renowned acorn-fed Iberico pigs are free to roam - so its no surprise to find mighty selection of hams and other charcuterie on display here in a special oak carving area, alongside many Salt Yard favourites including confit of Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with rosemary-scented cannellini beans and deep-fried courgette flowers stuffed with Monte Enebro goats' cheese and honey.
Also look for duck breast a la plancha with mustard fruits, char-grilled chicken with potato and green olive tapenade, and girolles with smoked garlic. The 60-bin list of intriguing wines is a mix of big names and little known gems; around two dozen are offered by the glass.
