Review on HIX
Hix on Soho's stylish Brewer Street is the second London venture from Mark Hix, recent winner of Catey's Chef of the Year award - the sophisticated and contemporary interior of Hix restaurant is adorned with exclusive pieces of art from the likes of Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas, Tim Noble and Sue Webster.
The concise and uncluttered menu showcases the signature British cuisine that Mark Hix has become renowned for. All the dishes on offer are exceptional, and a standard meal might include delights such as a starter of cod's tongues with whipped potatoes and girolles, followed by Roe deer chop with celeriac mash, and finished with a dessert of white chocolate and Dorset blueberry cheesecake. The wine list is extensive and includes some of Britain's finest wine from Coddington vineyard in Herefordshire.
Whilst the restaurant itself is serene and elegant, Mark's Bar in the basement offers a more informal, 'clubby' vibe and serves a selection of smaller British dishes. Recently named 'Best Bar in London' by Time Out magazine, it boasts a variety of beautifully made cocktails by Nick Strangeway. Hix in Soho is a culinary experience not to be missed.
