Review on Cley Hall Hotel
'The food was fantastic and staff made it a memorable stay,' enthused one couple after visiting Cley Hall Hotel. Originally a Georgian manor and private residence, it was sold in 1813 and now does duty as a delightful hotel set in landscaped grounds by the banks of the River Welland.
The main brasserie-style restaurant is divided into two dining areas, where visitors can choose from a modern menu with British and European overtones. Among the starters you might find ham hock terrine with beetroot jelly and beetroot bread or wild mushroom and sage risotto. Main courses ('from sea, farm and field') move into the realms of pan-fried red mullet with chervil root purée and baby vegetables, lamb rump with roasted parsnips and salsa verde, and roast partridge with Puy lentils and parsley root chips.
To 'fill and finish', the choice ranges far and wide, from apple and blackberry crumble with custard to orange and chocolate polenta cake with orange sorbet.
