Review on The Old Plow Bistro and Restaurant
The Old Plow Bistro and Restaurant occupies a charming 17th century house that is brimming with character. Set amongst the trees in the valley of the Chiltern Hills, The Old Plow is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Currently owned and run by Olivia and Malcolm Cowan who have successfully rejuvenated a hitherto floundering restaurant, gaining an enviable reputation. Their success lies in combining their special skill in seafood and French inspired dishes with excellent service and the cosy, intimate atmosphere that a small period country house with exposed oak beams and an open fireplace creates. Before branching out into the shires, Malcolm developed his craft in some of the capital's finest restaurants, culminating in the position of head chef at Maxim's de Paris, London.
In his own successful business venture he draws on his extensive experiences in London's West End to create an exceptional seasonal menu. And their celebrity clientele will attest that The Old Plow has established an outstanding reputation: actor Jeremy Irons has listed it as one of his favourite restaurants. Every dish has a reliable provenance: fish is shipped in daily from Devon and the beef is sourced from Scotland. Attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to high standards pervades throughout, without being pretentious.
The Bistro offers a slightly more informal and relaxed dining experience, and in the summer months there is the option to dine al fresco on the patio with the magnificent view of the Buckinghamshire countryside. The restaurant can also be hired for private and corporate events.
