Review on La Cucina, Fairmont St Andrews
The international resort hotel of Fairmont St Andrews overlooks a 520-acre estate with breathtaking views of the Tay estuary, the North Sea and the St Andrews' skyline. As the name implies, it's devoted to golf (with two championship courses) and health-giving pursuits.
At the heart of the hotel is their Italian eatery, La Cucina decked out in vibrant colours creating the perfect backdrop for food with a sunny Mediterranean feel. The kitchen employs authentic ingredients with seafood sourced locally for a menu that is designed to please everyone. Diners can enjoy an extensive selection of antipasti such as gamberoni, grilled king prawns served with chilli, garlic parsley and lemon that features alongside daily specials. There's also a great choice of pasta and risotto dishes, together with their gourmet pizzas. Other options worth considering are main courses such as a classic osso buco, a Milanese speciality of veal shin braised in vegetables, white wine and broth and served with a traditional side garnish of gremolata and saffron and lemon risotto with lemons and parsley. Sea fans might opt for branzino, grilled fillet of sea bass with a garnish of rosemary roasted potatoes, lemon and butter sauce. To finish there's panna cotta paired with a seasonal fruit compote or torta di mele, baked apple sponge served with vanilla ice cream.
Other dining options available at the Fairmont is The Clifftops for lunch, a fantastic cliff top setting with breathtaking views over the Torrance and Kittocks Golf Courses and the magnificent bay of St Andrews, as well as The Squire offering a relaxed brasserie style dining experience,
