Review on The Inn at Lathones
The core of this greatly extended coaching inn dates backs to 1603 and - in keeping with the past - it has its own friendly ghost (a grey lady with a horse, who now resides in the bar). Lately, the place has seen further expansion with many new bedrooms added in the Old Forge.
The kitchen focuses on unfussy modern European dishes along the lines of pesto-crusted salmon with confit shallots and cherry tomatoes or Perthshire lamb cutlets with boulangère potatoes, mint and redcurrant glaze, plus traditional roasts and desserts ranging from warm apple flan to summer fruit pudding terrine.
The wine list offers a good spread of interesting names at fair prices, plus a few superstars for big spenders.
