Review on Hotel du Vin & Bistro
Originally the St Andrews Golf Hotel, after undergoing a refurbishment in April 2014, it is now the latest addition to the Hotel du Vin & Bistro group. As you might expect, there are views over the links from this popular golfing hotel converted from two solidly built Victorian houses. But its position means that you can also gaze over St Andrews' Bay towards Carnoustie – especially if you are sitting near a window in the wood-panelled restaurant.
The bistro looks to seasonal produce for its menu featuring traditional French robust dishes and slow-cooked foods, with a British flavour. Expect starters in the shape of snails in garlic and herb butter or steak tartare, finely chopped beef, capers, gherkins and shallots, Main courses showcase comfort food in the shape of duck shepherd's pie or haddock and chips served with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Elsewhere on the menu there's rack of lamb with mint sauce or from the sea there's roast cod and lentils du puy, braised puy lentils, button onions and pancetta. When it comes to desserts enjoy mousse au chocolat with crème Chantilly or tarte au citron paired with raspberry sorbet.
