Overlooking the legendary eighteenth green of St Andrews' Old Course, this long-running hotel makes the most of its prime location. No wonder it's a great favourite with the golfing fraternity.

Executive chef leading the restaurants at the Macdonald Rusacks Hotel is Tony Borthwick, who was awarded a Michelin star in 2001 at his restaurant, The Plumed Horse in Crossmichael. There are views of the sporting action from the windows of the smart restaurant, where the food has a modern slant. Dishes tend to be rather elaborate, when the menu calls into play such things as seared West Coast scallops with butternut squash pickle purée, crispy Parma ham and passion fruit vinaigrette, then glazed Barbary duck breast with wilted spinach, braised red cabbage, slow-roast peaches and five-spice reduction, followed by vanilla pannacotta with honey-roasted pineapple, rum and raisin compote.
