Review on Austell's
Austell's is a gem of a fine neighbourhood restaurant in the tranquil location of Carlyon Bay on the approach road to the beach with six excellent golf courses, and just twenty minutes drive from the Eden Project. Set in a small parade of shops, the unassuming exterior gives no indication to the delights that await diners inside. The restaurant has a stylish modern interior with dark wood tables and chairs set against pale walls adorned with art, overlooked by the hustle and bustle of the open kitchen.
Brett Camborne-Paynter holds sway in the kitchen having earned his culinary stripes in top London kitchens such as The Ivy, The Waldorf and The Four Seasons with Jean Christophe Novelli. Menus change regularly according to the seasons and there is a genuine respect for fresh local ingredients in dishes with a modern accent. Opt for a starter of Cornish poached crab cannelloni, spiced mango and tomato salsa, crab bisque before a main course of confit of local pork belly served with creamed potato, buttered leeks and mushrooms, spiced apple chutney jus or maybe baked fillet of haddock, Dauphinoise potato, buttered leeks and mushrooms, pea puree and vierge sauce. There is also much to enjoy amongst desserts such as baked white chocolate cheesecake, crushed amaretti, poached rhubarb and rhubarb ice cream or cappuccino crème brulee with warm cinnamon doughnuts.
Austell's in an award winning restaurant that focuses on knowledgeable and attentive service within a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
