Review on Inn The Park
Created by restaurateur and gourmet Oliver Peyton, this smart contemporary café does a great service. Elegantly constructed of wood and glass, it stands enchantingly among trees and blooms by the lakefront in one of London's most beautiful parks - no wonder it's on most touristy hit lists for al fresco eating.
As a seasonal treat, much-loved 'High Summer Picnic Hampers' are in demand with hungry visitors wanting to chill out. The whole package comes complete with home-made goodies, a 'cheeky' bottle of Champagne or rosé, cutlery, glasses and - of course - a luxurious Scottish wool rug.
The kitchen pays homage to all things British with a range of menus and eating opportunities that kicks off with breakfast. Come early and you can go to work on Rookery Farm boiled eggs with soldiers, bacon sandwiches or pancakes with raspberry and lemon curd.
Regional produce also spreads itself all over the menus, from Cornish crab on toast, through Wessex Saddleback pork loin with celeriac and apples or Scottish halibut with Cheltenham beetroot to chilled rice pudding with stewed apricots. The wine list tips its hat to England and there's a fine selection by the glass.
