Review on The Game Bird at The Stafford
Discreetly tucked away just behind Queen's Walk, St James's, The Stafford London by Kempinski enjoys miraculously peaceful surroundings. It gets precious little in the way of passing trade, but is still cherished by legions of devoted regulars and tourists. Much of the hotel feels like a luxurious country house in the city, with classically designed drawing rooms. The Stafford's Lyttelton Restaurant has morphed into The Game Bird offering informal and relaxed dining throughout the day.
Ben Tish who was previously the Chef Director of the Salt Yard Group joined the hotel in January 2018 as Culinary Director. The kitchen offers a crowd pleasing menu using local seasonal produce. The focus is on traditional handcrafted trolleys with signature dishes including meat and own, smoked and cured pies, puddings and stews and not forgetting the time honoured Sunday roast.
The Stafford is also home to the legendary American Bar, which is festooned with a riot of baseball caps, ties, flags, model aircraft and other transatlantic memorabilia donated over the last 40 years. Don't miss Ben's celebrated Martinis or the famous Stafford burgers.
