Review on Harry Morgan's
A Jewish legend among the posh boutiques and brasseries of St John's Wood, Harry Morgan's has been turning out bagels, bowls of chicken and matzo ball soup and gefilte since 1948. It's also the top place for big plates of home-pickled salt beef and tongue with coleslaw and pickles, as well as chopped liver and chicken schnitzel – not to mention apple strudel, lokshen pudding, New York cheesecake and blintzes to finish. Next door is Harry M's - a useful deli/café and takeaway dealing in classic Jewish delicacies (open 8.00am - 10.00pm).
A facelift brightened up the interior some time ago, with artwork on the walls and a big display of wine bottles at one end, but little else has changed over the years. A smaller replica of the original (complete with an expansive al fresco area) is now open at 6 Market Place, W1 - a stone's throw from Oxford Circus.
