Review on The Post House
The Post House, a bistro, bar, cocktail lounge and fine dining restaurant is set in Chetwynd House in Stafford, a Grade-II listed building which formerly housed the town's post office. The building underwent a huge refurbishment programme in 2011 and now boasts a striking contemporary décor whilst being sympathetic to many of its original features, including the fine oak panelling and the original letter boxes that have been incorporated into its design.
The bistro is open all day for early morning breakfast, elevenses, lunch, scrumptious afternoon tea, and dinner when there is change of mood from the bustle of the day, lights are dimmed and candles are lit. The fine dining Pillar restaurant is located up the spiral staircase on the first floor, providing a more formal experience, where guests can watch the chefs in action through the open plan kitchen.
Typical offerings on the carte are starters of game terrine with port jelly cap and Cumberland jus or tian of crab and prawns, cucumber wafers and saffron mayonnaise with baby mixed leaves and lemongrass dressing. Main courses take in steamed sea bas with sundried tomato and basil stuffing served with grilled artichoke, spinach and fondant potato and red win jus, or choose one of their range of steaks, cooked on the grill with your choice of sauce. Desserts encompass Champagne and raspberry torte paired with vanilla ice cream or triple chocolate torte with chocolate ice cream.
During summer months the Post House's roof garden provides a nice location for cocktails before and after dinner.
