Review on The K Club, The Byerley Turk
A grandiose shrine to the sport and leisure industry, the K Club is an ultra-luxurious edifice standing in over 500 acres of pristine grounds overlooking the River Liffey. It's just part of a resort complex that includes a spa and two championship golf courses (host to the 2006 Ryder Cup).
Fine dining takes place in The Byerley Turk, an elegant affair with lush fabrics and heavy drapes, well-laid tables and sparkling crystal chandelier, creating a suitable cosseted setting for leisurely meals in a relaxed atmosphere.
The kitchen emphasises the finest of locally sourced ingredients, many freshly picked from their own gardens for a creative menu of traditional Irish and modem international dishes. Atlantic mackerel, Dingle gin watermelon, avocado puree, chilled cucumber gazpacho and toasted almonds is a good starting point followed by a main course of loin, lap and sweet breads of Irish Spring lamb, blueberries, goats cheese and beetroot. Carefully crafted desserts close the show with warm valrhona chocolate fondant with homemade Baileys ice cream and chocolate caviar or rhubarb and custard, champagne poached rhubarb and parfait with custard meringues. The wine list is an awesome 600-bin slate aimed at big spenders.
