Scott and Anne Baxter's informal, family hotel is tucked away in a quiet residential area close to Strathaven town centre. Inside, the restaurant wears an up-to-the-minute, minimalist set of clothes and there's an airy conservatory overlooking the garden.
The kitchen does its best to follow the seasons, so expect earthy game dishes in winter (roast venison with black pudding and caramelised turnips, for example). You might start with wild mushroom risotto or chicken and leek terrine with pear chutney, and conclude with something heart-warming like marmalade bread pudding with honey and oatmeal ice cream.
