Review on Bluebells Restaurant & Bar
Bluebells Restaurant & Bar is set between Sunningdale, Virginia Water and Ascot, this pristine white-painted contemporary 'restaurant & garden bar' may look like part of a residential development with its driveway and neatly planted shrubs, but it goes about its business seriously.
Inside, an air of understated formality suffuses the dining room, with olive colour schemes and each table shielded by a protecting net veil. The food is rather intricate without too many bells and whistles, so you might start with a plate of mixed antipasti or pressed ham hock and boudin noir with cider-glazed apples and celeriac spaghetti.
Mains range from monkfish wrapped in pancetta on cannellini beans, ceps and baby violet artichokes to a duo of pork with roasted chestnuts, parsnips and Granny Smith apple jus. Round off with, say, Comice pear tarte Tatin with tonka bean ice cream. Two-course set lunches attract the weekday crowd, while Sunday is very much a family occasion.
