Review on The Orange Tree

Set on the ancient Peddar's Way, opposite the local church in one of North Norfolk's most beautiful coastal villages, the Orange Tree has been given a new lease of life by its current owners. As a result, it's already picking up awards for its colourful modern food as well as its family-friendly accommodation.

The kitchen makes excellent use of local seafood, including Thornham Creek oysters, crab and Brancaster mussels, but the repertoire extends to char-grilled fresh tuna niçoise, confit of duck, Cumberland sausage with champ mash, and desserts such as Bramley apple crumble or chocolate brownie with chocolate fudge sauce.

Ciabatta sandwiches are available at lunchtime, and a traditional roast is the prime attraction on Sundays. Children have their own menu, and there's a play area in the extensive garden.

    Night out

Never been to the Orange tree but had read the reviews and seen the menu so decided to give it a go. It is a nice location and very welcoming. The staff are very good although the chef needs to keep them aware of what is in the food.
I had a starter of pork belly scallop and crab and it was somewhat disappointing. The scallop the tiniest I've ever seen was overdone and rubbery the pork belly was good but the crab was some crispy mess that tasted of nothing. Overall a poor start to the meal which I had not expected. For my main I choose the chicken and ham pie. Now this was a vast improvement it came with mash that was tasty and a carrot and green vegetable side. The gravy was lovely however the dish lack depth of flavour all you tasted was chicken. So was it worth the money definitely not should you expect more from the chef ...absolutely as this was ok not memorable and leaves you wondering why you did not stay at home and cook

    Surpirises on a plate

Three dinners here last week; three courses each time; all tasty and imaginative both in content and presentation. Good well priced wine list.
Young, friendly waiting staff not phased by being very busy. The award winning chicken and mushroom pie brought a smile to my face before I had even started eating.
    Suitable for all ages.
