Review on Flemings Restaurant & Accommodation
Michael and Eileen Fleming's delightful restaurant-with-rooms is housed in a substantial Georgian residence high on a hillside overlooking the river. Inside, it feels unashamedly Gallic in style with its raw silk curtains, wooden floors and open fires.
Organic produce from the owners' kitchen garden is put to good use for seasonal menus in the classic French mould. Here you will find frogs' legs in shallot, wine and garlic sauce, authentic coquilles St Jacques and fillet of turbot with paupiette of sole and Champagne sauce. Game also features strongly, as in seared pigeon breast and chicory tart or roast loin of venison with poached pear, and don't miss Fleming's signature dish of duck foie gras with Timoleague black pudding, glazed apple and Pineau des Charentes. Finish with Grand Marnier soufflé or tarte au citron.
Light meals are served in the recently opened lounge bar in the basement of the building, or you can enjoy the whole thing al fresco on the patio. The wine list is a keenly priced all-rounder with France stealing most of the limelight.
