Review on Eat on the Green
As its name implies, Craig Wilson's welcoming modern restaurant stands right by the local village green, some 20 minutes' drive from the centre of Aberdeen. The old stone building was formerly a pub, but imaginative contemporary food is now top of the agenda.
Scottish produce shows up promisingly on Craig's menus, whether it's steamed fillets of sea bass on herb mash and wok-fried greens with saffron, Chardonnay and caper cream sauce or char-grilled sirloin of local Aberdeen Angus beef with red onion marmalade, tarragon hollandaise and chunky chips. You might kick off with a selection of seafood appetisers and finish with hot chocolate fondant or 'A Little Taste of Eat on the Green' – comprising four mini desserts on one plate. The wine list offers good-value drinking from around the globe. Craig Wilson recently opened a new private dining room in what was once the local post office.
