Review on Glen-Yr-Afon House Hotel, Clarkes Restaurant
A delightful rural location in the lovely county of Monmouthshire overlooking the banks of the River Usk, Glen-Yr-Afon is just across the bridge, a five-minute stroll from the town. The architecture of this beautiful, privately owned Victorian Villa means that none of its rooms are the same, the angles creating rooms of individual character, style and space.
Whether it is an intimate table for two or dining with friends, Clarkes Restaurant provides an elegant setting for guests to enjoy creative and traditional cuisine based on Welsh produce. The extensive, monthly changing carte has a modern slant, offering the likes of smoked trout with crab risotto drizzled with a rarebit sauce, Welsh fillet steak with pumpkin mash and peppered sauce, and baked halibut with roasted baby beetroot and pan juices. Vegetarians have plenty of choice, and fixed-price lunches are excellent value.
