Review on The Empress
The Empress, formerly The Empress of India owned by Tom and Ed Martin is set in Victoria Park in East London. Occupying a corner site, this smart 19th century building has been fashionably updated and has a welcoming relaxed atmosphere.
Harry Milbourne heads the kitchen and he makes excellent use of first-class seasonal produce. Amongst the starters look for raw beef, avocado and chilli, followed by a main course of Guinea fowl, cous cous, harrissa and radicchio, while fish lovers might opt for the cod, crushed potato, peas and samphire. Close the show with desserts in the shape of chocolate mousse and caramelised apricots or coconut rice pudding, pineapple and passion fruit.
The Empress is also featured in: Michelin Guide, Hardens, AA Guide
