Review on A. Wong
Kym's restaurant a stalwart Chinese restaurant specializing in Peking, Szechuan and Hunan cuisine, a few minutes walk from Victoria station has morphed into A. Wong. The A. Wong is chef patron Andrew Wong, who took over his family business in December 2012 and has been attracting excellent reviews from both diners and critics alike for his modern Chinese food. With floor to ceiling windows, the L-shaped room featuring an open kitchen was updated offering a stylish relaxed venue, with high stools set at the bar for informal dining.
Andrew's extensive culinary travels around China show in the regional dishes on his 8 course 'Taste of China' menu, with reasonably priced innovative dim sum a highlight at lunchtimes. Typical dishes to try in the evening are Chinese lettuce braised in Shaoshing wine or Razor clam with braised sea cucumber, pickled cucumber, wind dried sausage and soy butter or maybe Five spice smoked cod cheeks. To finish there are beautifully displayed desserts in the shape of tobacco smoked banana and orange, nut crumble, chocolate and soy caramel or snow ball meringue, lychee granite and lime sorbet. Andrew's carefully executed dishes resulted in a prestigious Michelin star in the 2018 edition of the Guide.
Service is friendly and very helpful when navigating the menu.
