Review on Ebury Wine Bar & Restaurant
A ground-breaker when it opened in 1959, this wine bar/restaurant has always moved with the times while maintaining its old-school pedigree.
The décor is a witty and sustained slice of tormpe l'oeil involving flowers, bookshelves and cartoon-like characters, the atmosphere is forever cheery and the wine list is a joy to behold. There are at least 30 choices by the glass, lots of special monthly deals and quality at every turn.
Food is also taken seriously, and chef Bernard Dumonteil is no slouch when it comes to turning out contemporary dishes like char-grilled pigeon breast with marinated red onions or seared scallops with pea and roasted garlic purée and a potato pancake. Salads such as smoked salmon and pancetta are a feature, and desserts could include passion fruit and white chocolate brûlée.
