Review on The Duke Restaurant
Occupying the first floor above the Duke Bar in Warrenpoint – a little seaside town where the Mountains of Mourne meet Carlingford Lough – this humdinger of a restaurant really packs 'em in. Seafood from Kilkeel harbour is the king here and the kitchen does it proud with dishes such as baked hake with steamed asparagus and roast butternut squash cream, roast barramundi with lemon and basil risotto and sweet pea broth, and grilled turbot with wilted pak choi and prawn bisque.
Those who don't fancy fish can choose from a separate menu of retro-style international dishes including chicken liver pâté with Melba toast; seared chilli beef with Thai rice, chicken Kiev and roast venison with shallots and cranberry jus; the steaks are also first rate. Mid-week fixed-price menus (Tue-Thu) are an absolute steal, and the wine list suits all palates – although it's noticeably fish-friendly.
