Review on Laughing Gravy
Movie buffs may remember that Laughing Gravy was Laurel & Hardy's dog in the film of the same name; it was also one of the nicknames for illegal booze during Prohibition. Despite the jokey references, LG is serious when it comes to the business of food.
Inside, the place is divided up into several different areas, with pictures and prints on the walls, gilt-framed mirrors, lamps and velvet drapes at the windows; choose the light-filled conservatory if you want to enjoy the mood to the full. The kitchen takes an eclectic approach to things, offering exotica such as springbok and bison (perhaps served with wacky vodka, raspberry and Tabasco sauce) alongside fillet steak or sausage 'n mash; otherwise, the choice runs from crispy Vietnamese-style frogs' legs to stir-fried ostrich salad. To drink, there's a cracking choice of world beers plus a decent selection of wines from around the globe.
