Review on Waterloo Bar and Kitchen
Conveniently close to Waterloo Station and the Old Vic, this busy utilitarian venue is a handy pit-stop for commuters and theatregoers alike. There's not much in the way of décor, but there's plenty of space and the food hits its target.
Starters on the regularly changing menu might range from grilled squid with saffron and sugar snap pea risotto or smoked tuna with sweet Thai sauce to crispy pork belly with apple compote. Moving on, the choice extends from smoked haddock, bubble 'n' squeak, poached egg and mustard hollandaise to lamb cutlets with mashed peas, couscous and minted yoghurt, before proceedings come to a close with desserts such as poached peaches and stem ginger ice cream or apple and blackberry crumble with custard. A dozen wines are available by the glass from the concise, affordable list.
