Review on The Swan
The Swan an historic inn was the Good Food Guide's 2012 South West Regional winner, set in the pretty rural village of Wedmore in Somerset. The pub has been sympathetically restored with a welcoming rustic decor featuring stripped wood flooring, comfy seating and woodburners when the weather is chilly. There are also six stylish bedrooms available should you wish to extend your stay.
The kitchen is led by talented chef Tom Blake who previously worked at the renowned River Cottage Canteen. He continues to serve up delicious British food in his market driven menu, with an emphasis on top quality ingredients from local producers, which are listed on their website.
Menus change daily and the industrious kitchen bake their own bread and cakes and even cure their hams and bacons. There are plenty of areas to eat and an all day bar snack menu runs alongside the main restaurant menu. Looking at the dinner menu you could choose a starter of home cured salt beef and the Swan's piccalilli on toast, followed by a main course of whole grilled lemon sole, samphire, Cornish new potatoes, capers and brown butter. While desserts could encompass a tempting rich chocolate truffle torte with thick Somerset cream or maybe The Swan's rhubarb sundae.
Service led by Natalie Patrick and her team is notably attentive and friendly and this bustling pub is proving to be a very popular addition to the village and surrounding areas.
