Review on The Onslow Arms
Dating from 1623, The Onslow Arms nestles in the tiny but affluent Surrey village of West Clandon, just outside Guildford. New owners have undertaken a complete makeover and the result is a charming mix of old and new with beamed ceilings, smart wooden flooring, prints adorning the pale walls and comfortable leather sofas and chairs give the place a touch of style and gentrified ambience. With a large blazing log fire during winter and an attractive terrace and garden to dine al fresco in the summer, this is indeed a lovely pub to visit.
The Onslow Arms is passionate about the food and impeccable ingredients are sourced with care as there great pride taken in the quality of the menus. Typically you might begin with sautéed Serrano ham and new potato salad, capers, pea shoots and mustard dressing or a classic avocado and prawns with Marie Rose sauce. Follow on with a main course of grilled veal T bone chop served pink, home cut chips and Roquefort butter or maybe the Onslow Arms special fish, leek and mushroom pie, puff pastry lid and French beans, but make sure that you leave room for one of their delicious homemade puds!
The food is supported by a carefully chosen wine list with very attractive prices and there are several options available by the glass. Private parties can also be catered for with menus designed to suit your taste and budget. This smart community pub even has its own helipad - if you fancy making a grand entrance!
