Review on Applecross Inn

To reach this remote little inn, you need to traverse Bealach na Ba – the highest mountain pass in Britain – then drop down through a densely populated deer forest into Applecross Bay with its brilliant views over the Sound of Raasay to the Isle of Skye (weather permitting!).

Visitors are happy to undertake the trip because the scenery is awesome and the pub is a congenial meeting ground for locals and tourists alike. Food is served throughout the day, there are tables outside by the seashore and the inn even has rooms if you fancy staying over.

Fresh seafood – much of it from Applecross Bay – is the kitchen's forte, so expect an array of piscine delights on the daily changing blackboard menu: typical offerings might include whole prawns in lemon, herb and garlic butter, king scallops with crispy bacon on rice, dressed crab on salad leaves with homemade dressing and the renowned haddock in batter with chips and peas.

Away from fish, there is other local produce including venison from Applecross Estate in a rich jus on a bed of mash, cheeses from the West Highland Dairy and desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and raspberry cranachan.
