Review on Zest
It's been dubbed 'The Ivy of the North', no doubt because it seems to attract more than its fair share of famous names and faces, and this stylish modern venue on the roadside between St Bees and Whitehaven is certainly starting to cook up a storm.
'East End boy' and chef/proprietor Ricky Andalcio did some gastro-time with the Roux brothers and at Langan's Brasserie in London before moving here some six years ago, and he is now familiar to viewers up north through his appearances on Border TV. He has given the place an up-front metropolitan attitude, with stylish décor, ambitious contemporary food of the seared tuna and char-grilled corn-fed chicken variety, and a thoughtful, varied wine list that is worthy serious consideration.
A second outlet, Zest Harbourside, is a funky, more casual café/bar/restaurant on West Strand overlooking the quay.
