Review on Sushi-Say

A homely family-run Japanese restaurant in the heart of Willesden may sound unlikely, but this little place with its utilitarian décor and framed prints on green walls offers uncomplicated food at very affordable prices.

At the front is a sushi bar which serves up classics from the repertoire, and there's a traditional tatami seating area at the back. Lunch plates and set dinners (from teriyaki to tempura) are an easy way through the menu, otherwise take some time to delve into the carte and don't forget to enquire about the weekly specials. Appetisers could feature skewered yakitori, grilled aubergine with miso and agedashi tofu (deep-fried beancurd served with spring onions and seaweed), while you could finish with wasabi ice cream.

The restaurant has its own digestif (a palate-cleansing blend of vodka and pressed apple juice); otherwise drink saké, beer and tea.
