Review on The Montague Inn
It's tucked away in the middle of nowhere, but a trip to the Montague Inn is recommended for anyone who likes their food and drink from local sources. The landlord and his team keep the Monty in good order and they are upping the ante here when it comes to quality - although this former post office and village store is still very much a local's local.
West Country ingredients show up strongly, whether you choose a ploughman's, pie or casserole at lunchtime, or go for something more ambitious in the evening. Among the treats on offer might be butternut squash and artichoke soup, slow-baked pork with sage and apple jus, and desserts such as tarte Tatin.
Somerset ales and ciders are the drinks of choice, although the wine list is peppered with good drinking from around the globe. There are splendid views out towards Alfred's Tower from the pretty outdoor terrace and garden.
