Review on The Marsh Cat
Situated on Parkgate Promenade, this popular and lively bistro makes the best of its waterside location, and visitors are treated to great views over the Dee Estuary.
Seafood with a global slant is the main theme, and the kitchen delivers a wild bunch of specialities including pan-fried scallop and salmon cakes flavoured with Kaffir lime leaves, wasabi paste and spring onions; a New Orleans bonanza involving blackened catfish, a Southern-fried crawfish ball and king prawns served with 'plantation' sauce; also sea bass stuffed with crabmeat and wrapped in Parma ham. If meat is your thing, try something like spiced duck and pork rillettes with plum chutney, teriyaki duck served with pak choi and a pork-filled wun tun, or classic steak Diane.
There's also a very decent choice for vegetarians, including courgette and Provolone cheese fritters with lemon, dill and Greek yoghurt dip, Singapore laksa, and puff pastry parcels of marinated chick peas and vegetables with red pesto cream. To finish, you might fancy a 'nutty' torte with raspberries.
