Review on Crofters Wine Bar
Situated just off Witham High Street, Crofters Wine Bar is a popular neighbourhood venue. This Essex institution of some seven years is the brainchild of Emma and Dave Whitnell together with Richard Forbes, and they have decided that building on their success they would take the venue back to it's wine bar roots.
The emphasis is on 'the best and the freshest that nature has to offer'. This translates into a repertoire that plunders the Mediterranean, the Far East and elsewhere. Open proceedings with crispy duck wontons, hoi sin dressing or pan-fried devilled kidneys and brioche toast before crisp pork belly, bubble and squeak, crackling and apple sauce or a wild mushroom and spinach spaghetti. To finish try their famous Bakewell tart, cherry syrup and vanilla cream or Tiptree marmalade bread and butter pudding, clotted cream and ice cream.
Express lunches and light meals are also served in the bar, and during the warm weather, there are popular music events in the attractive garden - which is also ideal for alfresco meals.
