Review on Regency Restaurant at Ely House Hotel
Built in 1742 and originally used as a private girls' school, this listed brick building just outside Wolverhampton city centre has been sympathetically transformed into a privately run hotel with the personal touch and a real 'home from home' feel.
Some ornate wood panelling remains, along with a few fixtures and fittings from the old school days. Formal meals are served in the attractively refurbished Regency Restaurant, where the menu has a familiar international slant. Dinner might begin with shell-on prawns in garlic butter, before char-grilled rib-eye steak with white wine and pepper sauce, mushroom Stroganoff or Cajun chicken, with rhubarb crumble or warm chocolate fudge cake to round things off.
