Review on Crab House Café
Situated in a glorious spot on the Dorset coast, not far from Weymouth and with breathtaking views across Chesil Beach, the Crab House Café is a brilliantly off-the-wall set-up. At a glance it looks for all the world like a rickety beach shack with garish pink parasols and wooden seats outside.
The owners have their own Portland oyster beds nearby, but crabs and lobsters are the main piscine attraction. The former are served on wooden boards complete with picks, crackers and other tools of the trade for extracting the meat from the shell. You can even have them cooked Chinese style.
The rest of the menu focuses on locally landed seafood, ranging from pollack fillet with rarebit topping to red mullet with cumin seeds, coriander and fresh pineapple salsa. Veggies and kids also do well, and you can round off with Dorset apple cake, summer fruit cheesecake or a plate of handmade local and regional cheeses.
