Review on The Boars
The Boar is a smart pub and restaurant located at a crossroads in the thriving rural village of Spooner Row, a short stroll from the station and 10 minutes from Attleborough and Wymondham. The pub has an interesting design and architecture built in the 20's it has been loving restored over the years and is an immensely likeable place, noted for its relaxed and welcoming vibe. The main dining room is light and airy in the summer months and warm and cosy in Winter and the idyllic garden with its pretty fountain, invites lingering over a glass or two of wine or a leisurely meal.
The menu presents a carefully balanced choice of innovative and refined classical favourites, strongly tied to the seasonal availability of top quality ingredients and local producers. Typical offerings on the regularly changing carte might include pigeon breast, root veg mash and redcurrant and port sauce or potted shrimps with home made granary bread. Main courses embrace roasted monkfish with a balsamic glaze served with olive oil and watercress. Desserts bring onboard delights such as apricot and raspberry crème brulee with an orange cookie or a traditional Bakewell tart served with real custard. Vegetarians are well served and will always find at least two original dishes on the menu and if given notice, the kitchen will always try to adapt to any special dietary requirement.
There is a well thought out wine list to complement the food, beer provided by local brewer Adnams and friendly and efficient service in this local gem.
