Review on The Grange Hotel, Ivy Brasserie
One of the classiest independent hotels in the city, this Grade-II Regency townhouse was built for a wealthy member of the York clergy, and has been elegantly restored and revitalised without sacrificing any of its historic grandeur. It has the atmosphere of a country house, but the facilities of a metropolitan hotel.
The refurbished Ivy Brasserie promises fine dining in unpretentious, but stylish modern surroundings. Gastronomic influences abound on the menu: pan-fried foie gras is served with ginger sponge and lime, braised belly pork might be paired with monkfish and roasted pig's cheeks, while fillet of hake comes with sablé potatoes, fried egg and beurre noisette. Desserts also cover a lot of ground, from peach tarte Tatin to apple and grapefruit bavarois with thyme ice cream.
The Grange also has a second restaurant for informal dining called The New York Grill & Cafe Bar, located in the old brick-vaulted cellars. The restaurant is open every day for drinks and meals, with a menu offering a delicious selection of succulent steaks and grills.
