Review on The Foresters At Yoxall
New owners have recently arrived to breathed new life into this Staffordshire village watering hole, The Foresters At Yoxall, and it now sets out it stall as a contemporary pub/restaurant with a flexible attitude to things. The interior is spread over three rooms, filled with a mix of sofas, plain wood table and chairs, and there's seating outside for those who want to eat al fresco.
At lunchtime, the kitchen sends out a range of sandwiches, paninis and rustic rolls, along with honest gastro pub dishes (smoked haddock with poached egg, wild mushroom and black olive fettuccine, seared lamb's liver with bacon and mash, for example).
Dinner is a more elaborate affair that might commence with slow-roast belly pork and pineapple relish or smoked tuna loin with tartare crème fraîche, before saffron-marinated sea bass and scallops with crab risotto and salsa verde or Barbary duck breast with creamed Savoy cabbage, Parma ham and roast clementine. To finish, check out the handcrafted Staffordshire cheeses; otherwise, go for something sweet such as white chocolate mousse with poached strawberries or blueberry and Cassis tart with pistachio ice cream.
