Mobile Food Guide Review of The Cornish Range

Once a pilchard-processing factory in a dreamy village near Penzance, the Cornish Range is now reckoned to be 'the smart place to stay in Cornwall' - according to the Observer. The old stone building has been transformed into a delightful 'restaurant with guest rooms' serving top-notch Cornish produce is a rustic setting of soft lights, modern seascapes and model yachts.

Seafood from the Newlyn boats steals much of the limelight, and the kitchen tips its hat to the past by offering Caesar salad with salted pilchards (rather than the usual anchovies). Elsewhere, expect a combo of seared scallops, John Dory and tempura squid with tomato and caper dressing, crab and pea risotto with citrus crème fraîche, and roast stuffed monkfish with braised fennel and courgette frittata.

If meat is your preference, the kitchen might also turn its hand to char-grilled fillet steak with nutmeg mash and shallot purée or roast best end of lamb stuffed with apricots and rosemary. Locally produced ice creams and sorbets bring up the rear alongside desserts such as warm pecan pie or white chocolate cheesecake.
