Mobile Food Guide Review of 60 Hope StreetCurrently one of Liverpool's gastronomic frontrunners and synonymous with understated cool in the city, this end-of-terrace Georgian house is enviably situated not far from the Philharmonic Hall and the Anglican Cathedral, in the heart of the University quarter. It's a place that wears two hats. In the basement is a casual café/bar promising plates of meze and robust dishes like Caesar salad, curried mussels, and ribeye steak with chips and tarragon butter. On the ground floor, things take a more serious turn, with warm colours and luxurious touches contrasting with stripped-bare floorboards and undressed tables. The kitchen is not too proud to offer an all-day breakfast tart with brown sauce as a starter, and deep-fried jam sandwich with Carnation milk ice cream among its list of desserts. Alternatively you might begin with crab spring rolls with Asian dipping sauce or seared scallops with creamed salsify, then move on to breast of Goosnargh chicken with Lancashire mash and pepper sauce or grilled fillet of sea bass with Jerusalem artichokes, wild mushrooms, spinach and rosemary beurre blanc. Finish with classic sticky toffee pudding and fudge ice cream or praline pannacotta. Good and interesting names are peppered throughout the eminently food-friendly wine list. The owners are planning a second venue, called Host, also on Hope Street. Additional Restaurant Information for 60 Hope Street - Liverpool
