Gulshan - Liverpool

Established in 1986 and Michelin-rated for the last fifteen years, Gulshan is a sophisticated Indian restaurant situated in the leafy suburbs of south Liverpool. There's no mistaking the distinctive frontage and its decorative facia supported by no fewer than ten pillars; inside it feels luxurious with tinted windows, soft lights and leather-backed chairs.

The lengthy menu covers a lot of territory, from numerous tandooris and tikkas (look for the spiced minced trout kebabs) to curries of every complexion. Baltis also feature: the aptly-named 'green balti masala' gets its distinctive colour from a riot of herbs added to the mix. Meat and vegetarian thalis offer a complete meal on one platter.
