The views from the conservatory restaurant and sun-deck terrace are an absolute joy, as you look across the tidal marshes to the Coastal Path and Scolt Head island. They are part of the reason why this greatly extended pub/restaurant has such enduring appeal.
Inside is a mix of old and new, with an open log fire, scrubbed pine furniture and photographs of the area in days gone by, as well as exhibitions by local artists.
Seasonal shellfish, including cockles, mussels and oysters from beds at the bottom of the garden loom large on the daily-changing menus. Other piscine options might include grilled whole dab with lemon and parsley butter, salmon with roasted garlic and creamed herbs, or fillet of black bream with homemade linguine and tomato dressing.
Other local produce also shows up in the guise of char-grilled ribeye steak with hand-cut chips and caper oil, roast breast of corn-fed chicken with sweet pepper polenta, while desserts could include coffee cheesecake or roast peach frangipane tart. Real ales come from East Anglian breweries and the wine list boasts plenty of interesting, affordable drinking.
