In a quiet cobbled street, fives minutes' drive from Princes Street, Channings is the result of the discreet conversion of a row of attractive Edwardian townhouses. It is now a privately run boutique hotel, with a cosy, club-like atmosphere, a tranquil garden and a classical wood-panelled dining room.
The restaurant welcomes guests in a warm and elegant setting and is a popular lunch venue after shopping on nearby Princes Street. The kitchen works to a modern menu that changes with the seasons offering starters such as Scottish chicken liver parfait with red onion marmalade and homemade toasted brioche before a main course of pan fried fillet of East Coast hake sautéed Carroll's heritage sharpes express potatoes, samphire and citrus beurre blanc. To finish consider a gooseberry crème brûlée with clotted cream ice cream or maybe Thomas Thomson's Blairgowrie strawberries vanilla meringue and Chantilly cream.
