Set in a 360-acre estate high above the River Clyde with spectacular views across to Ben Lomond, this historic house was once the residence of Scottish shipping magnate Sir William Lithgow. These days it keeps up appearances with excellent facilities for sporting and business types.
In the elegant Garden Restaurant you can sample capably executed modern dishes like seared scallops on leek and shallot conserve with Vermouth, chive and Pernod sauce, grilled lamb cutlets topped with spinach and mushroom duxelle, gazed with hollandaise and served on Arran mustard sauce, followed by white chocolate and heather honey torte on a blackberry sauce with orange 'fillets'. The wine list is strong on vintage clarets and Burgundies.
