This is the chic, stylish brasserie alternative to top-end dining in Rocco Forte's ultra-swish Balmoral Hotel. The décor has a distinct '30s Art Deco feel with walnut floors, lime walls and a splash of African violet – colours apparently inspired by the natural landscapes of Edinburgh, taking in the Salisbury Crags, sea and sky.
The menu shows off its global brasserie credentials with starters and 'light bites' such as brandade of smoked haddock with Arran mustard dressing, curried parsnip soup with pakora and raita, or haggis wun tuns with celery and apple salad and harissa dressing.
Main courses embrace everything from roast salmon with mostarda di Cremona to Gressingham duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce and pickled cucumber, while desserts could include sun-ripened pineapple with pineapple sorbet or black figs with roasted almonds and Mascarpone ice cream.
