Mobile Food Guide Review of White Swan'A beacon in the Beacons' aptly sums up this renovated rough-stone pub opposite the village church. The heart of the White Swan is still its big oak-floored bar, which has plenty of exposed beams, polished woodwork, pictures, sofas and an open fire: it's just the spot if you fancy a pint and something light to eat. Food is high on the agenda and the kitchen never shirks from seeking out and making the best use of local produce, whether it's organic vegetables from Penpont, venison from a farm down the road or meat from the butcher in Talgarth. As you might expect, the restaurant menu is changing all the time and there's a fondness for worldwide flavours. Some recent offerings have included grilled medallions of smoked haddock on curried risotto with chilli and raisin dressing, and confit of Old Spot pork on bubble 'n' squeak with spinach, red wine jus and apple chutney, followed by desserts ranging from homespun treacle tart to fashionable chocolate and chilli fondant with orange and cardamom ice cream. Sunday lunch is a crowd-pleaser, and the wine list offers a good spread of bottles from the Old and New Worlds. Additional Restaurant Information for White Swan - Brecon
