A little piece of Italy replanted in Putney, Giuseppe Turi's modern restaurant Enoteca Turi, really evokes his native land with its Tuscan-toned walls and relaxed, laid-back atmosphere.
The strength of this place is its wholehearted dedication to regional recipes and seasonal ingredients. Pasta is made in-house and is used in colourful ways: black and white taglioni with langoustines, tiger prawns, squid and mussels, for example. Other ingredients are flown in from Italy and the kitchen digs deep to uncover gems from the backwaters and byways of Puglia, Sardinia and Umbria.
Menus are laid out in traditional manner, with pasta and risottos listed as second courses. You might begin with Venetian-style smoked haddock fishcakes with crushed broccoli, ginger and chilli or cured topside of wild boar with fresh figs and Castelrosso cheese before moving on to fillet of monkfish with courgettes, potatoes and mussels or breast of guinea fowl filled with buffalo Mozzarella and roasted vegetables. As a finale, choose between classic tiramisů with almond biscuit or Venetian chocolate torta with mint ice cream.
Each dish is flagged with a recommended wine from the stunning 300-bin list, which leaves no Italian stone unturned in its search for quality and fine drinking.
