Mobile Food Guide Review of Roscoff BrasserieCeleb chef Paul Rankin has spread himself around Belfast over the years and he's become a local hero in the process. In 2004 he hit the ground running with the new Roscoff Brasserie – an agreeably cosmopolitan, informal venue close to the Ulster Hall. It's a stylishly decorated place, with subtle recessed lighting, modern artwork and curved banquettes in shades of blue and grey creating just the right mood. Polished, highly tuned contemporary food has always been Rankin's trademark and his current kitchen brigade delivers the goods. There's always plenty of fish on the menu – perhaps crab ravioli with tingling curry and chive vinaigrette or roast monkfish paired with braised oxtail, root vegetables and gremolata. Crisped-up confit of duck spiked with cep oil is a signature dish, although meat fanciers could also go for sweetbreads with shallots and lentils cooked in sherry, veal meatballs with buttered noodles or something plain and simple like a slab of grilled beef fillet with chips. Desserts are equally confident creations such as dark chocolate tart with zingy orange ice cream or carpaccio of pineapple with a scoop of gin and tonic sorbet on the side. The wine list is peppered with up-to-the-minute names from around the globe, and prices are far from greedy. Additional Restaurant Information for Roscoff Brasserie - Belfast
